Exciting News For Transition Belper’s Station Gardening Volunteers

The Belper Station gardening volunteers have been shortlisted in the Community Rail GOLD category for “It’s Your Station”. To achieve Gold level is a very good result, as the competition is nationwide – and tough. Also Kate Pudney, the co-ordinator for the garden volunteers, has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Volunteer Contribution category.

The 2019 Community Rail Awards gala dinner will be hosted at The International Centre, Telford, on 3rd October. Five of the volunteers will be going along and keeping their fingers crossed at the Awards Ceremony. It will be difficult to win the competition outright as there are many strong entries. But it’s really good that the hard work of the volunteers has been recognised.

In the meantime, the Belper Station volunteers continue gardening at the station every Sunday morning (weather permitting). They are now making plans for bulb planting this autumn, and introducing new plants to attract even more insect pollinators into areas that are becoming too monoculture.

If you wish to join the Belper Station gardening crew, contact Kate ( 07823348178 or email katepud48@gmail.com). You do not have to be a gardening expert!  The Sunday morning sessions are fun and friendly and include homemade cake and tea or coffee.
