Green Exchange

The Green Exchange takes place every fourth Saturday of each month, at No.28 Community Centre in the Market Place, from 10am until 1pm. A place to meet like-minded folk and have a chat, a cuppa and a piece of cake, as well as finding out about the activities of Transition Belper.

Green Exchange started life as the ‘Transition Café’ early in 2017 with the intention of providing a monthly meeting space for the benefit of members, supporters and the public. It replaced more formal Transition Belper monthly meetings, making them more accessible to the wider community. It has evolved into an event for people to bring and swap any surplus or unwanted items they have, such as garden produce, seeds, books, children’s shoes etc – often there is a theme for the month, so do look out for details. The Repair Café is now held simultaneously with the Green Exchange, sharing the space at No.28, so it certainly is a hive of activity!

Although it wasn’t planned as a fundraiser, the café has in fact made a significant contribution to Transition’s income, and has enabled other community groups to raise funds for themselves by volunteering to run the café. A spin-off of the Green Exchange is the collection of waxed cardboard cartons (Tetrapak), which are transported by volunteers to the Amber Valley HWRC.

Volunteers are always welcome to help run the café and if anyone has any ideas of themes for items to exchange, or for talks or presentations, please come and see us at the next event or email us at info@transitionbelper.org
