Station Gardens

Station Gardens

Starting in July 2012, the Belper Train Station Crew are one Transition Belper’s earliest and most successful community projects.

‘Adopting’ Belper Train Station, the group originally set out with the intension of developing the green areas at the station and making them into a community project with a focus on sustainable and wildlife friendly planting.

On Sunday mornings the group garden from 10am to 12pm with around 8 people volunteering during each session. Though hard work, it is both sociable and relaxing too with the highlight being our coffee and homemade cake break!

Now the gardens are more sustainable, so work consists mainly of weeding, tidying and ensuring there is enough space for the most desirable plants and shrubs to thrive. They continue to encourage plants which are attractive to pollinating insects (bees, butterflies etc).

Their achievements were recognised when they received an East Midlands in Bloom Judges Award for our “planting and maintenance of Belper Railway Station.”
