Belper Youth Market

In 2013 Transition Belper organised a Youth Market, a pioneering event created to encourage young people to experience the world of business. This was an exceptional marketplace and creative space for young people to connect, gain entrepreneurial experience and showcase their creative and organisational skills. This event featured stalls and social areas where young people could:

•             sell their creations/produce/services
•             perform and entertain
•             provide refreshments and showcase their catering skills

A large number of creative young minds showcased their innovative designs, creations and performances, such as handmade jewellery and clothes; vintage and second hand clothing, music, films and books; original artwork, photographic art; quirky craft items; designer stationery; soft furnishings; homemade food and refreshments; home grown fruit and vegetables, flower arrangements; music performances; story telling; dancing; comedy shows; face painting; nail art; hair and beauty advice and makeovers.

We aimed to involve two distinct groups of young people who wanted to use their skills to help bring about a new generation of young entrepreneurs. Those who have exceptional organisational, business and marketing skills were engaged to help organise the event. Others, who are creative or love to entertain, showcased their talents by either selling their products or entertaining the visitors. We had a number of students from the University of Derby involved in helping organise the day.
