Umbilica

Umbilica is the poetry and songcraft of Josephine Lewis (she/her), whose poetry book ‘PleasureLand’ was published by Big White Shed in 2021. She was recently honoured to be a feature performer of Henry Normal’s Poetry Hour at Nottingham Poetry Festival 2022. She has contributed poems to the anthologies ‘Us Verses Virus’ (World Jam) and ‘Talk About Change: Writing As Resistance’ and in 2018 released an album of songs, ‘Where The Land Meets The Ocean’. She was one of three co-founders of performance collective She Speaks and plays in dream-pop band Grawl!x.

She is a facilitator of poetry and songcrafting workshops, a tutor of young musicians and has led choirs and noise-making events to empower women to raise their voices in activism. She lives in Derby and works across the East Midlands.
