“On A Walk” – Poem By Jo Kirk Now On Beth’s Poetry Trail

Jo Kirk, a long-standing member of Transition Belper, now has one of her poems on display at Belper Train Station as part of Beth’s Poetry Trail.

Beth’s Poetry Trail is a permanent memorial to Beth Fender who founded the town’s first two poetry groups.

The Beth Fender Memorial Fund and working group was established to set up the trail in 2003, including members of the poetry groups, plus family and local community representation.

A poem – or extract of a poem – is installed at 20 sites around Belper.  Each poem has been interpreted in a manner appropriate to the poem and the setting, as far as possible.

By kind permission of East Midlands Trains, both platforms at the station have a poem displayed.

“On a Walk” by Jo Kirk will now be the poem chosen for display on Platform 1 of Belper Railway station, the only site on Beth’s Poetry Trail where the poem is changed from time to time.  The poem will be displayed for at least a year.

You can read the poem above, or better still visit it in situ…and, if you haven’t walked the trail yet, the route can be found by following the link here: Beth’s Poetry Trail.
